An impressive example of the 19th Century Romanesque revival style, this elementary school is a cherished community asset, and as such received dedicated New York City Council funding for a range of improvements. Urbahn’s design encompassed the conversion of found space within the attic into a multipurpose space / media center and exterior historic preservation. Within the attic space Urbahn’s designers liberated the duct runs from behind walls and ceilings, thereby creating a gracious vaulted area that maximized natural light. The architectural solution also involved restoration of a skylight and the introduction of programmable lighting to allow for a range of moods for various events. The façade preservation restored brick, pointing, cast stone, and terracotta.
