President’s Residence Farmingdale State College

Farmingdale, New York

Urbahn designed this on-campus residence to replace the inadequate and poorly situated president’s house.  We developed the design to accommodate the president’s faculty events and fundraising activities, family living needs, as well as the college maintenance and operational requirements.  To meet an extraordinarily short schedule, Urbahn conceived an economical and fast-track approach involving early site development and modular construction.  While excavation was underway and utilities were brought to the site, modular building sections were being fabricated off-site.  Once the preparatory sitework was complete and prefab foundations were installed, the six modules were shipped to the campus and set in place over a two-day period.  The entire project, from design through construction, was completed in less than six months.
