MTA Crisis Command and Control Centers

Queens and Staten Island, New York

Urbahn designed two “C3 Centers” for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’ Police System Safety Unit. The primary facility, located in Queens, includes a monitoring center, operations theatre, dispatch theatre, situation room, radio transmission systems, training facilities, crew support and emergency vehicle storage. The facility is designed in accordance with FEMA guidelines: the structure is designed to withstand progressive collapse; the exterior envelope employs blast-resistant assemblies; the building is surrounded by a buffer yard protected by a knee wall of concrete and bollards; and redundancy is built into all critical mechanical and electrical systems. The back-up unit, located on Staten Island, is a scaled down version with many of the same features.

To accommodate an aggressive construction and technology fit-out schedule, the projects were executed on a Design-Build basis.
