When Max O. Urbahn hired Marty in 1963 to design several projects at NASA’s Cape Canaveral, he thought it would be a transient assignment. After doing his part to send man to the moon, Marty’s temp job turned into a flourishing 50+ year career. In the late 1960s, Marty turned his talents to several critical healthcare projects, including the Children’s Psychiatric Center, Lincoln Hospital, and the VA Medical Center, all in the Bronx, NY. He has been responsible for the design of a wide range of large-scale projects, including FermiLab in Batavia, Illinois, and the Federal Home Loan Bank Board Building in Washington, DC.
Marty is driven by the reward of beautifully solving the intricate puzzle of space, function, image, material, codes, economy, and time that each new project brings. After more than a half century at Urbahn, Marty continues to embody the firm’s commitment to architecture for the benefit of the public.
