Ranabir Sengupta, RA
Senior Associate

Mr. Sengupta, a talented architectural designer and master planner with over 18 years of experience. Since joining Urbahn, Ranabir has guided the planning and design on numerous civic projects for educational, transportation, and institutional clients. Mr. Sengupta‘s experience includes both new buildings, major modernizations and historic restorations. He believes every project is a unique synthesis of the program, the client’s desires, the site, budget and hidden design opportunities. His massing based architecture is derived not only from a modernist echos of functionality, but for a respect for the context.

His designs have won awards and his projects have been published in Architectural Records, Architecture + Design, Restoration Directory and the Journal of Indian Institute of Architects. As a member of the Historical Preservation Commission of Summit, NJ; Mr. Sengupta wrote the Design Guidelines for the town.

Many of his designs have been in either historically-sensitive or residential neighborhoods and have been able to strike a balance between their historic context and their modern functions. Some of his major projects include Science Hall, PS 66, PS 253, Renovation of the 53rd Street/Lexington Avenue station and New York Hall of Science.

He holds a Master of Architecture degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
