Urbahn provided planning
and architectural design of this joint LIRR/NYC Transit project for
the rehabilitation of this major urban intermodal train station that
encompasses the Woodside station of the Long Island Rail Road and the
61st Street station of the NYC Transit Flushing Line.
The primary objectives for this project were to extend the LIRR station
platforms, rehabilitate the 61st Street
and Roosevelt Avenue overpasses and comply with the ADA requirements
of for the entire complex.
Both stations are elevated with the stations crisscrossing.
A common mezzanine is sandwiched between the two lines providing
all program space, ticket sales, waiting areas and concessions for both
systems.
