Urbahn is designing a new
370,000 sq ft vehicle storage and repair garage for the NYC Department
of Sanitation on a tight site on the Upper East Side, adjacent to the
FDR Drive, between 73rd and 74th Streets.
Housing three independent operating districts, each with its own dedicated
vehicle storage, repair, personnel and administrative spaces, the building
is planned to accommodate separation of facilities and operation. Shared
vehicle wash and fueling facilities are located in dedicated areas
at grade level to avoid disruptive vehicle queuing.
The distinct urban challenge is to design an industrial facility within
a dense mixed-use community. the building will incorporate environmentally friendly materials and systems.
