NIEHS is the principal
Federal agency for biomedical research on the effects of chemical,
physical and biological environmental agents on human health, particularly
carcinogens.
This structure has a total gross of 334,000 sf and is composed of five
units or modules interconnected around vertical circulation cores.
Three modules house general laboratories, BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs, animal
science facilities and support functions while the remaining two are
for general administration.
The unique design utilizes systems building, modular concepts, energy
saving considerations and other innovations to optimize interior flexibility
and expansion capability.
