Urbahn provided master
planning and A/E services for the Food and Drug Administration’s
headquarters and animal research complex. The main 160,000 square foot
building (Module I) was the first phase of construction. It
houses BSL-2 and BSL-3 containment labs, ancillary
support systems, animal holding areas, offices, conference
center and library. This facility is the primary research center
for the Bureau of Food and Bureau of Drugs.
Module II is a 20-building, 60-acre development serving the
Bureau of Veterinary Medicine. The buildings include an
administration building, an aquaculture facility, 15 animal holding
buildings,support and maintenance buildings. Laboratories include chemical
analysis, pharmacology, toxicology, general parasitology, general microbiology,
pathology,
and animal nutrition.
