The Metropolitan Schools
campus involves the design of four separate schools on an eight-acre
site in Forest Hills - two High Schools and two PS/IS schools - with
a total capacity of over 2,200. This project involves two major challenges:
maximizing the use of the site and giving each school its own identity
within the total campus.
The building’s design includes a core of facilities shared by
the four schools - auditoria, gymnasia, cafeteria/kitchen, and library/media
centers. The four schools are on the perimeter, each identified by
its own unique color scheme on the building’s exterior and interior.
The site design places play areas for the PS/IS near these schools
and the play fields for the High Schools near them.
