Urbahn is providing complete
A/E services for an addition and
renovations at the George R. Vierno Center on Rikers Island. The 289,000
SF facility consists of 2 housing buildings and a central administration
building. Each 4-story housing building is outfitted with 224 inmate
cells with adjacent individual outdoor recreation porches. The administration
building provides for all required inmate programs, visiting, inmate
intake & discharge, security, and a 6500 meal/day main kitchen.
Careful massing of the project was
required to comply with FAA height restrictions for nearby LaGuardia
Airport.
The product is proceeding through the NYSERDA application process.
