Urbahn conducted a system-wide
comprehensive assessment of 128 rail stations for the Long Island Rail
Road. Included in this study is a full inventory of all systems associated
with these stations, documentation of the present conditions, remedial
recommendations, implementation of new design standards, cost estimating
and capital programming. A full field reconnaissance was done for
each station. To accomplish the work under a tight schedule four independent
teams, each with a full complement of professionals conducted the survey.
To further expedite the work and to facilitate analytic potential of
the data, all information was entered in the field on hand-held computers,
using an interactive multi-relational database.
