Based on the prototype
we developed, Urbahn designed residential-scale psychiatric
community residences across New York State. Our design objective was
to create a homelike, non-institutional environment allowing the maximum
opportunity for skills development needed to increase independent living.
The traditional style of our prototype was adapted to each site, with
aesthetic modifications suited to each unique context. Each residence
contains its own kitchen, dining room, laundry, recreation, and vocational
training areas. The projects were located at the (1) Buffalo (2) Pilgrim,
Central Islip
(3) Creedmore (4) Rockland
State (5) St. Lawrence (6) Mid-Hudson
(7) King's Parkand
(8) Mid-Hudson
Psychiatric Center.
